I just decided to do a little blogging today after a long absence. This blog, has been somewhat different from the one at LJ. Stuff at LJ have been more personalised and perhaps more reflective of emotions while I think maybe this blog has had a somewhat bland feel towards it. I don’t really know actually, cos I hardly ever re-read my posts. They bore me to death..
Okay.. back to the post. Just last night I watch the British GP at Silverstone. KIMI RAIKKONEN WON!!! (*adds emotion*) Yeah.. Time for a little fangirling. Maybe not so much gushing.. But just some pictures of the event. I have to say that I was a proud fan yesterday night even if I was only watching the Delayed Live telecast (..all thanks to RTM.. *insert sarcasm*) of the race. Dad stayed up watching and cheering with me. Hehe.. My first time watching a full race this season. And Raikkonen sure gave me loads of reason to cheer. Hopefully with the back to back wins, those speculations about him being replaced would sink…
Okay. I’ve got to clear this one thing up first right at the beginning. This is NOT a post on Michael Jackson. Its just a remark a friend made while we were attempting the treadmill. Now that its clear we shall move on to what I wanna say.
I’ve been a lazy blogger of late. So this is effort on my part here to drop some comments on what I’ve been up to the past week. I have been attending this 7 day free trial thingy at California Fitness, Midvalley. After the trial period, (well, its not exactly over yet) I’ve realised one thing. Walking furiously but not moving an inch is not exactly my kind of fun. Although they have 3 televisions showing different shows in front of you, there’s no sound. So it really defeats the point of watching, especially since they’re showing News and Discovery channels.
Of course there’s MTV. But we all know how the Music Videos are these days. They consist mostly of half nude females wagging and shaking as if there’s no tommorow. Eye-candy for guys maybe, but definitely not for me. Hence, most of my time is spent staring at the numbers on the treadmill screen telling me how much calories I’ve burned.
Another common thing you can find at gyms are the cycling machines. I had my go at it and the experience was not much different from the “moonwalking”. In addition to that, alot of the thrill of cycling has been brutally robbed by these machines. Basically, we remain stationary and there are no such things as taking corners at high speed without toppling over, losing control and sliding on the ground with grazed legs and hands (believe me when I said I’ve experienced such things), or cycling furiously up hill to enjoy the rush of speeding downhill with the wind blowing in your face.
To comment on just these two machinese they have there would bring injustice to the other various activities they offer there. Personally, I love the pool and steaming hot jacuzzi thought I think that its size is questionable in accomodating the weekend crowd. Another thing that would be fun would be the different dance classes they have which unfortunately are during weekends when I’m packed with classes. As a whole, the facilites they have and the way things are organised are pretty good and its like a whole new world to me there.
Let’s end this post with a question followed by as short an answer as the long-winded me is able to give.
Q:Would you find me in such places in the future?
A: I hardly think so unless I have a load of cash and time to dispose off. I might highly consider a sports club where I can play all sorts of sport ala Club Med. Let’s just say I prefer an element of “game” in my fitness regime. Dance clubs are pretty appealing too. No offence to my 7-day-trial-mates, fitness centre lovers and California Fitness. Thank you for making my time there a memorable one. *winks*
(Argh..as if tempting my patience. My first post was lost thanks to the stupid connection. So this is 2nd attempt. *tries to recollect thoughts*)
Its been quite sometime since I got myself to writing an entry. Something has been occupying my time so much that I just haven’t been able to sit and type on the many topics that have been hovering on my mind. I had wanted to type a review on Angels and Demons by Dan Brown (awesome book, by the way..), a comment on the small similarities between the “nice” article by Mary Schneider in Monday’s Star “But Then Again” column and a few other stuff which I can’t even remember. Yes, my memory has not improved. How sad..
I’ve been down with a fever lately. A DBSK Fever. DBSK stands for “Dong Bang Shin Ki” which translates to mean “The Rising Gods of the East”. My first impression of them upon seeing a huge Billboard advertising their concert in Malaysia was,
“Huh? What kind of “LALA” group is this ler?? YERR..”
I’m afraid that I’ve been made to eat my words. The words “Never Judge A Book By Its Cover” rings true to me now (nevermind that I’m constantly realising and re-realising the truth of it).
DBSK (or otherwise known as TVXQ, TVfXQ, or Tohoshinki) is a Kpop group which specialises in Acappella and dance. They have songs in Korean, Japanese, Mandarin and English, plus a few Banjun Dramas. Believe me when I say that I never liked acappella till I heard DBSK. So much so that I now actually prefer the acappella versions to the ones with music.
My first dose/exposure to DBSK was when my buddy Sher-Li gave me the youtube link to watch their Rising Sun Music Video.
“WAH!! Such awesome dance moves and choreography!”
Its no surprise that they won Best Video for that MV. Watching those cool dance moves, you can’t help but like the catchy tune of Rising Sun. Curiosity probed me to search more and I stumbled upon the all-time favourite ballad “Miduhyo” or “I Believe”. The song was so beautiful that it secured my liking. The rest is history..
Apart from the music and dance, another thing that I’ve found really appealling about them is the strong bond and friendship between the members. Its so heartwarming. They are such a playful bunch of kids, and their antics, absolutely hilarious! I’ve learnt my lesson of not eating or drinking while watching DBSK clips on youtube. I might just end up choking to death.
For those who have been open to the introduction of DBSK by yours truly, I know you’re now enjoying and experiencing the full DBSK Fever. April suggests I open an academy someday. Haha.. I shall consider it toudai..
That’s what Sher-Li used to call me. I’m starting to believe her. I’ve just finished watching the Turkish GP of Formula 1. My mood was pretty dismal throughout the race. All the excitement sorta went down the drain after the first few laps. My favourite driver (though “hero” would come close to describing it too), Kimi Raikkonen was hit by another car in the first corner which caused a puncture in his back left tyre. Looking at him driving that dragging car back to the pits, sure hurts the heart.
I’ve always had this theory back then when I was having classes that if I was a good girl and attended classes instead of sneaking downstairs to the cafeteria to watch F1, Kimi would do well. I got that idea after a few unnatural coincidences. My theory has been tested and proven effective. With that, I try to obey it strictly and not succumb to temptation.
Well, it seems the theory is slightly different, or shall I say reversed for the hols. This time, I must not miss a GP. Not even a moment of the GP. Just three weeks ago, I was at my aunt’s place in Shah Alam for dinner. I had to watch the starting of the GP there and then rush home to continue. Kimi was doing fine and had a chance at the win while I was there watching. While on the way home to continue the race, I got a message updating me that Kimi had collided with someone else.
As for today, I was at Shah Alam again. This time, I was determined to rush home in time to watch the whole thing. Felt like pulling out the strands of my hair when my mum was dilly-dallying there to leave. Then my uncle had to stop for petrol. I reached home just in time to miss the first lap. And THAT was when Kimi was hit. I made it in time to watch the replays of the incident. “Ouch..”
Maybe I am his jinx. From this day on, I vow to stay home on F1 nights. That’s just so harsh on me, as that would mean late dinners, usually leftovers and not being able to join family outings. But I would do anything for the sake of Kimi.
Took my brother to watch Superman Returns yesterday. Well, I wasn’t all that excited to go watch it really. But the reviews in the newspaper seemed favourable. So I went with an open mind. Wasn’t that disappointing, I must say.
(If you havent watched the movie and are planning to watch it, I HIGHLY recommend that you stop reading at this point, for there are spoilers ahead.)
The opening credits kinda psyched up the mood. There I was, listening to the famous Superman tune, feeling nostalgic. (Yup, its been along time since I heard that tune) Of course the cinema’s surround sound played a big part in giving that effect. I wonder if the same would have been felt had I been watchin from my own tv at home on a pirated DVD.
Anyway, back to the movie. Superman Returns is about how Lois Lane has supposedly “moved on” when Superman took off “without even a goodbye” to visit whatever remains there were of his home planet, Krypton. But after 5 years (erm..I think) absence, he comes back with a Boom! (literally) only to find that Lois has a totally adorable little wheezing kid and a fiance/husband (didn’t quite get which one it was.. *shrug*).
There was this line in the show where Lois was telling Clark, “One day, Jason (her son) will grow up to be big and strong like his father..” (I’m paraphrasing here) The immediate question that popped to my mind at that moment was..”Ahaaa..who’s the father?” Turns out later that I HAD asked the correct question. Hehe.. wait, did I mention the son was absolutely adorable?
The reason I didn’t want to watch the movie in the first place was because the idea of a guy in tights and red underwear worn on the outside was no longer really appealing. Not that it was before, but that’s another issue. So I was wondering what Lois Lane saw in Superman till there was this scene where he took her flying. Yeah, I know that is a popular scene in Superman movies… But girls will forever remain suckers for such scenes somehow. I was thinking that perhaps it was then, where she was admiring the beauty of the moment above the clouds, (where her obvious lack of height really didn’t matter) that she forgot about the bad taste of Superman’s wardrobe. Or shall I say, one and only outfit?
As a whole I suppose the movie was okay, with its cheesy lines and all. Worth the 6 bucks I paid for it I guess. But if I had paid double of that amount, I wouldnt be so sure the verdict is the same. Poor Richard though. His wife/fiancee’s heart was so obviously not with him, nor was Jason his son. Poor guy. As usual, I find inappropriate scenes hilarious and laughed on much to the annoyance of my brother. Aww..sorry. Hehe..
Well, that sums up my short so-called review. Didn’t want to write that much more since I’m sure some people would’ve ignored the recommendation in bright YELLOW at the beginning and go on reading anyway. Typical…
Today, our national badminton player, Lee Chong Wei won the Malaysian Open tournament held in Kuching, Sarawak. He defeated Lin Dan (my badminton hero) 21-18, 18-21, 23-21. I know I’m supposed to be patriotic and all and support my own country. But where individual glory is concerned, I’m not all too pro-country.
Yes…. I’m still pissed at the dismal performance of Chong Wei in the Thomas Cup. Where it was for the country, he just failed to deliver. Can’t blame me for being negative towards a person who only strives for individual glory right? So imagine my heartbreak upon seeing unfair line calls made against Lin Dan, who in my mind is the best player at the moment. Ultimately invincible. Watching him play brings joy to the heart as his shots and moves are absolutely mesmerising.
I wouldn’t say Chong Wei didn’t play well. I think they were both good. But I felt that Lin Dan could’ve done better than that. He shouldn’t have let the bad line calls affect him. He could’ve wrapped up the match when it was the match point at 20-13. But NO….. He relaxed, made mistakes and instead Chong Wei forced the deuce and went on the clinch the win. *Sighs*
To make things worse, he showed such unsportsmanship behaviour which was truly a disappointment to watch. Sure, I agree that there were bad line calls and with all my heart i felt that you deserved to win. But to be a sore and graceless loser is even more heartbreaking to watch. Nevermind the fact that im a sore loser myself.
Which brings the question to mind – Which is worse, Losing or Being a sore loser? I would think the latter is the obvious one. It considerably wrecked my mood further. We shall not even start to talk about my strained vocal chords from cheering him on. It was this incident that forced me to think about Chong Wei’s performance.
Truth is, to some extent, I think I will forgive Chong Wei for the Thomas Cup outing. He showed alot of grit and determination especially when it mattered most (well, only in the malaysian open which once again i remind u, is the purely for personal glory). He stayed cool and won the match. Today’s win I will credit it to him for showing grit and determination, for not giving up when all seemed perpetually lost. If its one thing I hate in sports, its the giving up attitude.
I suppose there are times when one is off form or just unable to cope with the pressure. We can’t be at our best all the time. Even androids malfuntion or suffer from glitches. And so human beings make mistakes now and then too. Because of that, I will try my best to forget the Thomas Cup blunder and look to his possible future contributions to the country’s badminton progress. (I wonder though if I’m more of trying to convince myself here..hehe..)
One final dedication though. “Hail Kien Keat-Chong Ming!”
(Update: Lin Dan thrashed Chong Wei at the recent Taiwan open to claim the title. Ahh…Sweet is revenge..)
I came across this song recently and I loved it. The lyrics, the tune and maybe the special way in which it is sung. (at least I think so..) Hence, I’ve decided to share it, or rather, post it up where I can see it. Its meant for all those negative people who put me down and also as a reminder of those who think themselves miserable. The idea is to look positively. They are many people out there who are in worse off positions.
So as the saying goes,
“Look to the light, and you will never see the shadow.”
(or something along those lines…haha..)
The lyrics are as follows.
Hoobastank – If I Were You
You seem to find the dark when everything is bright You look for all thats wrong instead of all thats right Does it feel good to you to rain on my parade You never say a word unless its to complain Its driving me insane
If i were you.. Holding the world right in my hands The first thing i’d do Is thank the stars for all that i have If i were you..
Look what surrounds you now More than you ever dreamed Have you forgotten just how hard it used to be So whats it going to take For you to realize It all could go away in one blink of an eye It happens all the time
If i were you.. Holding the world right in my hands The first thing i’d do Is thank the stars above Tell the world i love that i do If i were you..
So whats it going to take For you to realise It all could go away in one blink of an eye It happens all the time
If i were you.. Holding the world right in my hands The first thing i’d do Is thank the stars above For the world I love Take a breath and enjoy the view If i were you… If i were you… If i were you…
