Random..

I just decided to do a little blogging today after a  long absence. This blog, has been somewhat different from the one at LJ. Stuff at LJ have been more personalised and perhaps more reflective of emotions while I think maybe this blog has had a somewhat bland feel towards it. I don’t really know actually, cos I hardly ever re-read my posts. They bore me to death..

Okay.. back to the post. Just last night I watch the British GP at Silverstone. KIMI RAIKKONEN WON!!! (*adds emotion*) Yeah.. Time for a little fangirling. Maybe not so much gushing.. But just some pictures of the event. I have to say that I was a proud fan yesterday night even if I was only watching the Delayed Live telecast (..all thanks to RTM.. *insert sarcasm*) of the race. Dad stayed up watching and cheering with me. Hehe.. My first time watching a full race this season. And Raikkonen sure gave me loads of reason to cheer. Hopefully with the back to back wins, those speculations about him being replaced would sink…

That’s all on the British GP…

(It remains unpersonal … … )

Courage + Difference

This post has been postponed a little longer than I wanted due to 2 reasons.

1. My aching back from hiking Gasing Hill. (Hopeless me…)
2. DBSK’s 2nd Asia Tour, Seoul concert

So finally I’m gonna get this post done so that its a “burden” off my chest. LOL..

Anyway, I watched Princess Diaries for the first time last friday. The movie was okay.. But to me, there were two noteworthy points. Not that it was anything spectacular or amazing. Just that, those two moments caught my attention the most because it brought meaning to me in some way.

First was in that letter that Princess Mia’s father, King of Genovia wrote to her. In that letter he said, “Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather, it is where there are more important things than fear..” (Paraphrasing here.. Not too good at remembering exact words)

This phrase reminded me of a small exchange I had with my mum quite some time ago when I was much younger. I’m someone who’s afraid of worms. Earthworms, maggots, caterpillars.. you name it. YUCK.. Those things just plain gross me out. Insects aren’t too bad. But just not worms. Wait, are worms insects? Ahh.. Nevermind..

Anyway, after some observation on my part over some time, I asked mum one day.
“How come you aren’t afraid of any insects or worms? Were you always like that?”
Her reply was,
“When your a mum, you can’t be afraid of such things especially if you’re kids are afraid of them.”

So you see how Mia’s dad’s words rang true to me when I thought of what mum said. There were more important things to my mum, i.e me, than the fear of creepy crawlies. A rather simple and small example. Perhaps not so significant to others, but significant enough to me as it reminds me of my parents and their love.

The other moment in the movie was when they played BSB’s What Makes You Different. Its one of my favourite songs of BSB simply because of its lyrics. I don’t care if anyone thinks its cheesy. I’m just gonna post the lyrics for fun. (and for record..meaningful things should always be said, recorded and remembered)

Backstreet Boys – What Makes You Different (Makes You Beautiful)

You don’t run with the crowd
You go your own way
You don’t play after dark
You light up my day
Got your own kind of style
That set you apart
Baby that’s why you capture my heart
I know sometimes you feel
Like you don’t fit in
And this world doesn’t know
What you have within
When I look at you
I see something rare
A rose can grow anywhere
And there is no one I know that can compare

What makes you different (makes you beautiful)
What’s there inside you (shining still to you)
In your eyes I see
All the love I’ll ever need
What makes you different makes you beautiful to me

You got something so real
You touch me so deep
See what’s in your fade
Don’t matter to me
So come as you are
You got nothing to prove
You want me with all that you do
And I want to take this chance to say to you

What makes you different (makes you beautiful)
What’s there inside you (shining still to you)
In your eyes I see
All the love I’ll ever need
What makes you different makes you beautiful to me

You don’t know how you touch my life
Always so many ways I just scared to try
You tought me what love is supposed to be
You saw the little things that make you beautiful to me

What makes you different (makes you beautiful)
What’s there inside you (shining still to you)
In your eyes I see
All the love I’ll ever need
What makes you different makes you beautiful to me

I’m reminded again today that sometimes, it really is hard to tell the truth and speak what you really feel, even when it is a loved one. Perhaps, ESPECIALLY if its a loved one. But to just hold it within yourself, is perhaps really torturous on emotions and small things get blown out of proportions.

Yikes.. my blog isn’t supposed to turn into a “Black Blog” as Sher-Li calls it. Haha.. Maybe sometimes things can’t always be white..

Worth A Thousand Words

It’s said that pictures are worth a thousand words.. Just thought of posting a few pictures that never fail to make me smile even if I’ve had a lousy day..

Little Ming Dao… ZzZz…..

Beloved Angie… WOOF!

Angel Junsu…

Siwon’s dimples!

Happy Micky!

Not everyone would share the smiles I feel out of these pictures.. But well, this is MY blog. *evil laugh*

Rain’s Coming

Before I get shot down by the thousands and maybe millions of Rain fans. Let me make this clear. THIS IS NOT AIMED AT MAKING FUN OF YOUR IDOL IN ANY WAY! Its just a play of words with the current crisis that Malaysia, or more accurately, Johor, is experiencing now.

Every day, everywhere I go, I see the words “Rain’s Coming” on posters and advertisements that also comes with a generous display of his washboard abs and biceps. I switch on the TV, Rain. I flip open the newspapers, Rain (more than a page, mind you). I go to shopping malls, Rain.

With all the Rain coming, I was just wondering how could the floods in Johor possibly subside. I must say the timing of this tour is pretty coincidental huh? Maybe some argue that Rain isn’t going to Johor or something like that. Haha.. You have a point I will agree. But just some food for thought lah.. Hope no offence was taken.

In light of the heavy promotional activities for his upcoming concert on the 27th January, Bukit Jalil Stadium, I shall contribute a little by posting a banner too!

The Day I Became A Telephone Operator

No… No… This is not some “Cita-Cita Saya” kinda essay. Just a little small story about what happened at approximately 6pm today while I was trying to concentrate on a TV Series. Maybe it’d be easier to narrate in conversation form.

*O Jung.Ban.Hap ringtone is audible over TV sounds*

LL: YEAH? *answers phone*

UB: Where is ur MOM? Why I keep calling her can’t get wan! (forgive the broken english)

LL: Erm.. Maybe she’s not there yet?

UB: She’s usually earlier than I am!

LL: Uhm.. I dunno where she is. Have u tried calling the Kindergarten?

UB: I don’t have the number!

LL: ******** (real number concealed for security and privacy purposes)

UB: Ok

*click*

And I resume watching my show. Alas.. (note: choice of word here is due to CLP) Barely 5 minutes into the show my phone rings again.

LL: Yeah?

UB: She’s not there! Where is she??!! I’m leaving the coffee shop now.

(They were supposed to meet up for dinner and then he fetches my brother home.)

LL: Then what about LX (my bro)? Why don’t you drop by the day center and see if he’s still there?

UB: *sighs*

LL: Did they say that M is not in the office or not in the kindergarten?

UB: I dunno! They just said she’s not there.

LL: I’ll try to call

*click*

Clerk: Hello… ******* (name concealed once again for the same reason)

LL: Hello, M please…

Clerk: M ah.. Hmm… She…. Uh… Went back already ah?

LL: That’s what I’m asking you! (I had to laugh at this point… What ridiculous nonsense..)

Clerk: Haha.. Uhm.. I’ll check the time plan. Can you call back in awhile?

LL: OK

*click*

I resume watching TV while giving the clerk sometime. However, my phone rang soon after..

LL: Yeah?

M: Where is UB??? Why can’t I get through to his phone?

LL: Uhm… (At this point, I was pretty tempted to say “Please wait while I transfer your call”) He tried calling you but you didnt answer your phone. Where were you? Why weren’t you at the shop?

M: I was late. I had 3 missed calls from him but when I called back I couldn’t get through. All I heard was “Sorry…..bla bla bla bla”. Why can’t I get through? Where is he?

LL: Erm…. I dunno… (In reality, I admit to sounding alot more agitated)

M: *sighs*

*click*

Oh yeah…that was a rough outline of the happenings. I did feel somewhat like a clairvoyant for a while, albeit a fake one, since they were looking to me for answers that I couldn’t answer any better than they could. What’s the relevance of this story you may ask? I honestly dunno.. HAHA.. Good day..

Moonwalking

Okay. I’ve got to clear this one thing up first right at the beginning. This is NOT a post on Michael Jackson. Its just a remark a friend made while we were attempting the  treadmill. Now that its clear we shall move on to what I wanna say.

I’ve been a lazy blogger of late. So this is effort on my part here to drop some comments on what I’ve been up to the past week. I have been attending this 7 day free trial thingy at California Fitness, Midvalley. After the trial period, (well, its not exactly over yet) I’ve realised one thing. Walking furiously but not moving an inch is not exactly my kind of fun. Although they have 3 televisions showing different shows in front of you, there’s no sound. So it really defeats the point of watching, especially since they’re showing News and Discovery channels.

Of course there’s MTV. But we all know how the Music Videos are these days. They consist mostly of half nude females wagging and shaking as if there’s no tommorow. Eye-candy for guys maybe, but definitely not for me. Hence, most of my time is spent staring at the numbers on the treadmill screen telling me how much calories I’ve burned.

Another common thing you can find at gyms are the cycling machines. I had my go at it and the experience was not much different from the “moonwalking”. In addition to that, alot of the thrill of cycling has been brutally robbed by these machines. Basically, we remain stationary and there are no such things as taking corners at high speed without toppling over, losing control and sliding on the ground with grazed legs and hands (believe me when I said I’ve experienced such things), or cycling furiously up hill to enjoy the rush of speeding downhill with the wind blowing in your face.

To comment on just these two machinese they have there would bring injustice to the other various activities they offer there. Personally, I love the pool and steaming hot jacuzzi thought I think that its size is questionable in accomodating the weekend crowd. Another thing that would be fun would be the different dance classes they have which unfortunately are during weekends when I’m packed with classes. As a whole, the facilites they have and the way things are organised are pretty good and its like a whole new world to me there.

Let’s end this post with a question followed by as short an answer as the long-winded me is able to give.

Q: Would you find me in such places in the future?

A: I hardly think so unless I have a load of cash and time to dispose off. I might highly consider a sports club where I can play all sorts of sport ala Club Med. Let’s just say I prefer an element of “game” in my fitness regime. Dance clubs are pretty appealing too. No offence to my 7-day-trial-mates, fitness centre lovers and California Fitness. Thank you for making my time there a memorable one. *winks*

Simple Wants

I came across this story while checking my emails. Not exactly thought-provoking nor heartwarming but rather just something I’d like to share though I have most probably forwarded it to most of my friends. So its plainly for those of you who have not read it.

 The story is as follows:

Jack wakes up with a huge hangover after attending his Company’s
Annual Office Party. Jack is not normally a drinker, but the drinks didn’t taste like alcohol at all. He doesn’t even remember how he got home from the party. As bad as he was feeling, he wondered if he did something wrong.

Jack forced himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he sees is a couple of aspirins next to a glass of water on the bedside table. And, next to them, a single red rose!

Jack sits up and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed. He looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotlessly clean. So is the rest of the house. He takes the aspirins, cringing when he sees a huge black eye staring back at him in the bathroom
mirror. Then he notices a note hanging on the corner of the mirror written in red with little hearts on it and a kiss mark from his wife in lipstick:

“Honey, breakfast is on the stove. I left early to go get groceries to make you your favorite dinner tonight. I love you, darling! Love, Jillian”

Jack stumbles to the kitchen, and sure enough, there is hot breakfast, steaming hot coffee and the morning newspaper. His son is also at the table, eating. Jack asks, “Son… what happened last night?” “Well, you came home after 3 A.M., drunk and out of your mind. You fell over the coffee table and broke it, then puked in the hallway and got that black eye when you ran into the door.”

Confused he asked his son, “So, why is everything in such perfect order, so clean. Why do I have a rose and breakfast on the table waiting for me?” His son replies, “Oh, THAT! Well, Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take your pants off, you screamed, “Leave me alone, lady, I’m married!”

Broken coffee table: $39.99
Hot breakfast: $4.20
Two aspirins: $0.38
Saying the right thing, at the right time? Priceless

Some discussions with friends over this story led to a small conclusion. It shows that it really is that simple to make a wife feel that anything she does for the husband is worth it and for her to feel appreciated. Just an assurance of her husband’s fidelity. Some of you may disagree that things aren’t that simple in real life. That, is true in a sense that if Jack comes home every day at 3am drunk, there’s no way any wife can put up with that. But just looking at the story on the basis that it is a “once in a while” occurrence, such simple few words have the power of just making her day, even though the coffee table is broken, etc. I believe that it really is that simple.

Picture Update

Just to add a new picture I took of my little cousin Min Dao mentioned in “A New Life”

Absence Due to Fever

(Argh..as if tempting my patience. My first post was lost thanks to the stupid connection. So this is 2nd attempt. *tries to recollect thoughts*)

Its been quite sometime since I got myself to writing an entry. Something has been occupying my time so much that I just haven’t been able to sit and type on the many topics that have been hovering on my mind. I had wanted to type a review on Angels and Demons by Dan Brown (awesome book, by the way..), a comment on the small similarities between the “nice” article by Mary Schneider in Monday’s Star “But Then Again” column and a few other stuff which I can’t even remember. Yes, my memory has not improved. How sad..

I’ve been down with a fever lately. A DBSK Fever. DBSK stands for “Dong Bang Shin Ki” which translates to mean “The Rising Gods of the East”. My first impression of them upon seeing a huge Billboard advertising their concert in Malaysia was,

“Huh? What kind of “LALA” group is this ler?? YERR..”

I’m afraid that I’ve been made to eat my words. The words “Never Judge A Book By Its Cover” rings true to me now (nevermind that I’m constantly realising and re-realising the truth of it).

DBSK (or otherwise known as TVXQ, TVfXQ, or Tohoshinki) is a Kpop group which specialises in Acappella and dance. They have songs in Korean, Japanese, Mandarin and English, plus a few Banjun Dramas. Believe me when I say that I never liked acappella till I heard DBSK. So much so that I now actually prefer the acappella versions to the ones with music.

My first dose/exposure to DBSK was when my buddy Sher-Li gave me the youtube link to watch their Rising Sun Music Video.

“WAH!! Such awesome dance moves and choreography!”

Its no surprise that they won Best Video for that MV. Watching those cool dance moves, you can’t help but like the catchy tune of Rising Sun. Curiosity probed me to search more and I stumbled upon the all-time favourite ballad “Miduhyo” or “I Believe”. The song was so beautiful that it secured my liking. The rest is history..

Apart from the music and dance, another thing that I’ve found really appealling about them is the strong bond and friendship between the members. Its so heartwarming. They are such a playful bunch of kids, and their antics, absolutely hilarious! I’ve learnt my lesson of not eating or drinking while watching DBSK clips on youtube. I might just end up choking to death.

For those who have been open to the introduction of DBSK by yours truly, I know you’re now enjoying and experiencing the full DBSK Fever. April suggests I open an academy someday. Haha.. I shall consider it toudai..

Final words? “DBSK Hwaiting!”
